With typhoon season on the way, we dread the rain that comes with it. Didn't we just get enough rain in July???? Apparently not.
That's okay though because I am here to let you in on some fun ideas to keep your pets entertained during this unpredictable season of wet.
Dog require a good amount of mental and physical stimulation each day. Though it may seem that the lazy ones do not (they do). Most healthy young dogs need about 30 minutes of good exercise and mental challenges. While you could tire your dog out physically you still need to tire that mind.
Let's get out that energy!
Not all dogs are impressed by bubbles, but a lot of them are. This can be a fun and hilarious way that you can get your pets moving with minimal effort. Heck, you can even get a bubble machine off amazon and let that baby rip until your dog is pooped.
*Be warned* Make sure that your dog has enough space or a large room for this activity.
Tug of war
Tug of war is another simple game that you can play with your pup. Tug of war works the mind and the body not just for the dog but for the human too.
Don't have a rope? Use an old rag, t-shirt, or towel.
Let the dog know the rules and always stop if teeth touch the hand.
Rainy days often give us time to lounge and pamper ourselves so why not let Fido join in?
Give them a bath, trim their nails, and a good brushing. Not only will the look nice but I'm sure they will feel better too.
Once they are all groomed maybe a nice belly rub or doggy massage?
Hide and Seek
Some real fun is the intense game of hide and seek as you wait for your dog to find you. Reward them with a treat when they find you so that they will be more motivated.
Try hiding some treats to see if your pup can find it.
Teach New Tricks
You do not need to be a dog trainer to teach your dog new tricks. There are a ton of youtube videos that can teach you to teach your dog how to put their toys away in a basket. How neat is that? Take advantage of the rainy days so that you can keep repeating the training. Not all of these can be learned in one sitting.
A few tricks that you can teach are:
- Roll Over
- Lay down
Puzzles and Treat Dispensing Toys
The final activity is puzzle toys and treat-dispensing toys. Kong has an excellent selection of treat-dispensing toys. So many I'm sure your dog would never be bored with the selection. As far as puzzle games this interactive squirrel home is a great choice as well as this slow feeder puzzle game. Both of these are sure to keep your pup entertained and work those brains.
